Straight off the bat, it’s important to clarify that Roku, primarily a digital media player for TVs, doesn’t offer a direct way to use its apps on other devices like MacBooks or laptops…

However, this doesn’t mean you’re out of options. There are several workarounds and methods to access Roku content on your MacBook, albeit not as straightforwardly as on a Roku device.

  • 1. On a MacBook or computer, using a Roku app or premium channel is different from using the actual Roku operating system on your Mac.
  • 2. If you only want to watch the Roku channel online (laptop, macbook, smartphone, etc), then visit: The Roku channel online, which Is the official Roku website for this. Not everybody knows about this!
  • 3. It is much more difficult to get your actual Roku interface on your Mac, to do this you’ll probably want to screen mirror or cast your Roku to your MacBook or use one of the Roku secret menu options.
  • 4. If all you want to do is use apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, YouTube TV, FuboTV, Sling TV or any other subscription based streaming service or platform, then you can simply by visit the website of that service, login and begin watching on your MacBook or laptop.

Note: If you’re Mac isn’t optimized, these methods may be tougher to execute. You’re going to want your Mac to be optimized, clean and have any unnecessary programs uninstalled.

This will let it run at full speed – to get further information you can do this (checking your CPU usage on mac) see this post for more details.

Now, let’s embark on this journey together, exploring each path you can take.

1. Screen Mirroring: A Temporary Solution

3 1. Screen Mirroring A Temporary Solution

Screen mirroring is one of the most straightforward methods to watch Roku content on your MacBook. It involves projecting your Roku screen onto your MacBook, essentially replicating what’s on your TV.

This method is particularly useful for presentations or watching content without needing a direct app or channel access on your MacBook.

Keep in mind, though, that screen mirroring can sometimes result in lag or lower video quality, depending on your network’s strength and stability. It’s a great temporary fix but might not be the best long-term solution for an avid streamer.

2. The Roku Channel Online: A Web-Based Approach

4 2. The Roku Channel Online A Web Based Approach

Roku offers a web-based version of its Roku Channel, allowing users to watch a selection of its content directly from a web browser.

This is a boon for those looking to access Roku’s content without the need for mirroring or casting. Simply visit The Roku Channel online, sign in, and you’re good to go.

One advantage of this method is its ease of use; there’s no need to fiddle with settings or download third-party apps. However, note that the content available on The Roku Channel online might be more limited compared to what you can access on a Roku device.

3. Use the Roku secret menu

5 3. Use the Roku secret menu

The Roku secret menu isn’t as mysterious as it sounds, but it’s a less-known feature that allows users to access advanced settings and features, which can sometimes include screen mirroring or casting options not readily visible in the standard menu.

Keep in mind, the Roku secret menu is primarily intended for troubleshooting and may not provide a direct way to stream Roku apps on your MacBook. It’s more of a backdoor into Roku’s settings that might offer some workarounds for streaming issues.

4. Using Third-Party Apps

6 4. Using Third Party Apps

Mirror for Roku

Mirror for Roku is a third-party app that enables screen mirroring from your MacBook to your Roku device. It’s a straightforward solution for mirroring your entire screen, including Roku apps, directly to your TV.

See the 14 Best Screen Mirroring Apps for Roku

AirBeamTV

AirBeamTV is another app designed for screen mirroring from Mac to various devices, including Roku. It offers a simple setup and the ability to stream videos, music, and photos from your MacBook to your Roku device.

Web Video Cast

While primarily used for casting videos from web pages, Web Video Cast can also mirror your MacBook screen to a Roku device, making it a versatile option for streaming content. Web video cast also doubles a Roku Web Browser.

Each of these third-party apps offers a unique set of features and capabilities, but they all serve the purpose of bridging the gap between your MacBook and Roku device. A benefit here is the ease of setup and use, but keep in mind the potential costs and compatibility issues.

JustStream

JustStream is a flexible program that makes it possible to stream from Mac to Roku TV without interruptions. The connection needs a download and installation of the app to your computer. JustStream’s interface works with a wide range of video types. It is easy to connect to the app and start to enjoy the best content available on the channel.

  • Visit the Apple Store and follow the prompts to download JustStream. Once downloaded, follow the prompts to install it on your Mac.
  • Use WIFI to link the two gadgets and start streaming. It makes it easier to achieve flawless streaming.
  • Open the app on your computer to display the wide range of casting choices. One of the choices on the platform will be Roku.
  • Since you want to cast on Roku, choose the Roku TV option. If you need a video player, you can download a variety of video players for Mac online.
  • JustStream contains a large pool of multimedia that you will love. Choose the types you prefer to cast on the TV screen.
  • Broadcasting starts once you open the Play button. The app offers the best speed and clarity that every Mac user will love.

Webcatalog

Keep in mind that the Roku Channel features a wide array of content, including movies and TV shows from major studios such as Lionsgate, MGM, Paramount, and Warner Bros., among others. In addition to its licensed content, it offers Roku channel content from publishers like FilmRise and Popcornflix.

5. Casting (Selective Streaming)

7 5. Casting Selective Streaming

One advantage of casting is the ability to continue using your MacBook for other tasks while streaming content to your Roku. However, not all apps and services support casting, and compatibility can vary. See how to cast Roku for all casting & screen mirroring options

Casting allows you to send specific content from your MacBook to your Roku device, rather than mirroring your entire screen. This method is ideal for streaming videos or music without the rest of your MacBook’s interface getting in the way.

Which method is best? (Compared)

When it comes to choosing the best method for using Roku apps on your MacBook, it really boils down to what you’re looking for… Each method has its own set of pros and cons, and what works best for one person might not be ideal for another.

Screen Mirroring vs. Casting: Pros and Cons

Screen mirroring is great for displaying your entire MacBook screen on your TV, making it suitable for presentations or browsing. However, it can be less than ideal for streaming high-quality video due to potential lag and quality degradation.

Casting, on the other hand, offers a more seamless streaming experience, allowing you to send specific content to your Roku device while freeing up your MacBook for other uses. The downside is that not all content or apps support casting, limiting its usefulness.

Third-Party Apps in Roku Streaming

Third-party apps like Mirror for Roku and AirBeamTV offer convenient solutions for mirroring and casting, with easy setup and broad compatibility. However, they often come at a cost, and the streaming quality can vary based on your network conditions.

For those looking for a straightforward way to access Roku content without additional hardware or apps, The Roku Channel Online is a solid choice. It offers a selection of Roku’s content directly in your web browser, though the available content may be more limited than on the Roku device itself.

The best method for you depends on what you value most: ease of use, streaming quality, or access to a wide range of content. It’s worth experimenting with several methods to find the one that best suits your streaming.

Practical Guide

Now that we’ve explored the various methods to access Roku apps on your MacBook, let’s dive into a more practical guide. This section will give you step-by-step instructions for some of the methods mentioned earlier, helping you set up and start streaming with ease.

Setting Up Screen Mirroring on MacBook

To set up screen mirroring from your MacBook to your Roku device, you’ll first need to ensure that your Roku supports screen mirroring and that the feature is enabled. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. On your Roku device, go to Settings > System > Screen Mirroring and ensure that Screen Mirroring mode is set to either “Prompt” or “Always allow.”
  2. On your MacBook, click on the AirPlay icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen. If you don’t see the AirPlay icon, go to System Preferences > Displays and check the box for “Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available.”
  3. From the AirPlay dropdown, select your Roku device. You might need to enter a code displayed on your TV to initiate the connection.
  4. Your MacBook screen should now be mirrored on your TV via your Roku device.

Keep in mind, the performance and quality of screen mirroring can depend on your Wi-Fi network’s strength and stability. As mentioned, see more on Roku screen mirroring here

Accessing The Roku Channel Online: Step-by-Step

If you’re looking to access The Roku Channel online without the need for screen mirroring or third-party apps, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open a web browser on your MacBook and go to The Roku Channel’s website.
  2. If you have a Roku account, you can log in with your credentials. If not, you may need to create an account to access the content.
  3. Once logged in, you’ll have access to a selection of movies, TV shows, and live TV that you can watch directly from your browser.

This method is straightforward and doesn’t require any setup on your Roku device, making it a convenient option for quick access to Roku’s content.

Top Third-Party Apps for Roku on MacBook

For those considering third-party apps for streaming Roku content on a MacBook, here are some top recommendations:

  1. Mirror for Roku: Easy to set up, this app allows for full-screen mirroring of your MacBook to your Roku device. It’s great for watching videos, browsing the web, or sharing presentations on a bigger screen.
  2. AirBeamTV: Similar to Mirror for Roku, AirBeamTV offers seamless screen mirroring with the added benefit of audio support, making it ideal for streaming music or video content from your MacBook to your Roku.
  3. Web Video Caster: While not strictly a mirroring app, Web Video Caster allows you to cast video content from web pages directly to your Roku device. This is particularly useful for streaming videos that are not available through standard Roku channels.

Each of these apps has its own set of features and pricing, so consider what fits best with your streaming needs and budget.

How to Cast from MacBook to Roku

Casting from your MacBook to Roku allows you to stream specific content rather than mirroring your entire screen. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Ensure that the app or website you’re using supports casting. Popular services like YouTube and Netflix often have a cast icon directly in the video player.
  2. Click on the cast icon and select your Roku device from the list of available devices. Your video should start playing on your Roku-connected TV.
  3. Control playback directly from your MacBook or use your Roku remote for basic play/pause functionality.

Casting is a convenient way to enjoy videos and music on your Roku device without the clutter of your entire MacBook screen being displayed on your TV.

Challenges and Solutions

While using Roku apps on your MacBook can offer a world of convenience, it’s not without its challenges. Here are some common issues you might encounter and potential solutions:

  • Performance Issues: Screen mirroring and casting can sometimes result in lag or reduced video quality. To mitigate this, ensure that both your MacBook and Roku device are connected to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network. Consider using a 5GHz network if available, as it can offer faster speeds and reduced interference.
  • Compatibility Problems: Not all Roku channels or third-party apps may work seamlessly with screen mirroring or casting. If you encounter compatibility issues, try using The Roku Channel online for web-based streaming or explore different third-party apps that might offer better support for your desired content.
  • Audio Sync Issues: When mirroring or casting, you might experience delays between video and audio. Third-party apps like AirBeamTV offer solutions to adjust and sync audio, ensuring a smoother viewing experience.

By understanding these challenges and knowing how to address them, you can enhance your Roku streaming experience on your MacBook, making it more enjoyable and hassle-free.

Bottom Line

Using Roku apps on your MacBook or Windows computer is entirely possible, though it requires a bit of creativity and patience to set up. Whether you prefer the simplicity of The Roku Channel online, the full-screen experience of screen mirroring, third party apps, or the selective streaming of casting, there’s a solution that fits your needs.

The Roku website offers a wide range of platforms where you may play MKV files and other types of content online. You just need to log into the Roku channel to start playing.

With the practical guide and tips provided, you’re well on your way to enjoying Roku’s vast content library from the comfort of your MacBook.

Remember, the best method depends on the app you are trying to use.

On the other hand, passive styluses, although less accurate, are more affordable and don’t require charging. When choosing a laptop for note-taking, make sure it comes with a stylus pen or is compatible with one, as this feature is crucial for more natural writing and drawing experience.

What are the most important features to consider when choosing a laptop for note-taking?

When selecting a laptop for note-taking, there are several crucial factors to consider to ensure optimal performance and functionality. First and foremost, look for a device with a responsive and high-quality touchscreen display that supports stylus input for more accurate writing and drawing. Additionally, make sure the laptop has adequate processing power and RAM to handle multiple note-taking applications simultaneously.

A lightweight, portable design is also essential, as it will make it easier to carry your laptop around for daily use in different environments. Moreover, prioritize laptops with long battery life to avoid the need for constant charging during classes or meetings. Lastly, pay attention to the laptop’s compatibility with popular note-taking apps and accessories, such as stylus pens and graphics tablets, to enhance your overall note-taking experience.

Should I prioritize portability or screen size for a note-taking laptop?

When choosing a laptop for note-taking, it is essential to strike a balance between portability and screen size. In general, it’s wise to lean towards lighter and more compact devices for easy transportation and convenience. One advantage of selecting a laptop under 4 pounds is that it can easily be carried around, fitting into most backpacks or shoulder bags. At the same time, you want to ensure the screen is large enough for comfortable reading and note-taking.

A 13 or 14-inch screen size is a suitable starting point for balancing portability with display quality, but in some cases, users might prefer the larger view provided by a 15 or 17-inch screen. Side note: Keep in mind that increasing the screen size generally results in a heavier and bulkier device, which can affect overall portability. Regardless of the screen size, aim for a laptop with at least a 1080p resolution display to guarantee clear and crisp visuals.

Are there any specific brands or models that are known for being good for note taking?

There are several well-regarded brands and models of laptops that excel at note taking. Many standard laptops come with comfortable, responsive keyboards and advanced trackpads that facilitate efficient and precise note-taking. In this case, factors like performance, battery life, and portability might be more critical to your decision-making process.

What is the average battery life for a laptop used primarily for note taking?

Battery life is an essential factor to consider when selecting a laptop for note taking, as it directly impacts the device’s usability in various environments, like classrooms or meetings.

On average, a laptop with a battery life of 6 to 8 hours is considered sufficient for the majority of note-taking needs and can cover a full day of classes or meetings without constant recharging.

Focusing on specific user categories, niche note-taking apps address unique requirements and functionalities. These specialized apps cater to creative professionals, writers, and students or researchers who benefit from tailored solutions to tackle the challenges within their respective fields.

Creative professionals, such as graphic designers and artists, find apps like fand Concepts helpful, as they offer layers, customizable brushes, and color palettes. Apps like iA Writer and Scrivener cater to writers, bloggers, and novelists by providing features like syntax highlighting, built-in proofreading, and distraction-free writing environments.

Premium vs. Free Note-Taking Apps: Pros and Cons

When deciding between free and premium note-taking apps, users should consider various factors, including feature availability, storage capacity, cross-platform compatibility, and customer support. Premium apps often provide an edge in these aspects, but free alternatives may be sufficient for some users.

Premium note-taking apps like Evernote Premium and Bear Pro offer advantages such as increased storage capacity, advanced collaboration tools, priority customer support, and more extensive integration options. However, free alternatives like Simplenote and Joplin may provide enough functionality for users who require only basic note-taking features.

Ultimately, the choice between free and premium note-taking apps should be based on individual needs and usage patterns. Factors such as the frequency of use, reliance on advanced features, and the need for storage and connectivity make it essential for users to weigh the pros and cons before choosing the right solution for their needs.

Integrating Note-Taking Apps with Other Productivity Tools

Maximizing productivity goes beyond effective note-taking; integrating note-taking apps with other productivity tools can create seamless workflows. This integration can take several forms, ranging from syncing calendars to automating tasks with task management apps.

Calendar integration, available in apps like NotePlan and Agenda* ensures seamless scheduling by syncing notes with deadlines and appointments. Furthermore, integration with task management apps like Todoist and Trello allows for the creation of to-do lists, managing assignments, and tracking progress in a centralized place.

Embracing these integrations streamlines the entire workflow, allowing users to focus on the actual work rather than spending time on administrative tasks. Several note-taking apps offer integration with several productivity tools, either natively or through third-party platforms like Zapier (one of my favorites), enabling users to build their custom, integrated work environments.

FAQ

Should I use a Web App or a software from the Apple store for note taking?

When selecting a note-taking app for your Mac, you have the option to use a web-based app or download an app from the Mac App Store. Web apps offer the advantage of being accessible from any device with an internet connection and often support cross-platform use. However, they might have limited functionality compared to the native apps downloaded from the Mac App Store.
In contrast – native apps generally offer a better user experience, higher performance, advanced features, and better integration with macOS. So, depending on your usage pattern and requirements, choose between the web app or native app accordingly.

Can I use Audio and voice to text to take notes

Yes, you can use audio and voice-to-text features to take notes on your Mac. macOS has built-in dictation features that convert your spoken words into written text.
Alternatively, you can check out third-party apps like Otter.ai, Gboard, or Dragon Professional Individual for more advanced speech-to-text capabilities. However, keep in mind that voice-to-text accuracy (may) vary depending on the software used and the clarity of your speech.

Should I use an iPad or a MacBook for class?

The choice between an iPad and MacBook for taking class notes boils down to personal needs (and the type of note-taking required). iPads offer a more natural handwriting experience, better portability, and touchscreens that may be conducive to sketching or writing formulas.

Conversely… MacBooks offer a dedicated keyboard for faster typing, more software options, and better multitasking capabilities. Evaluate your requirements, use case, and preferred method of note-taking to decide which device serves your needs best.

It also comes with iCloud sync and provides a seamless note-taking experience across devices.

Notion is another alternative, see the Best Notion templates (It might be the best one if you’re strictly using Mac).

It boasts a host of organizational features and provides excellent integration with other Microsoft Office products. One advantage of OneNote is its rich collaborative feature set, enabling users to easily share and work together on notes and documents.

For those who prefer a minimalist, text-centric approach to note-taking, Bear offers an elegant solution. With its clean interface and focus on text, Bear users can enjoy markdown support, numerous exporting options, and a tagging system that helps keep notes organized.

Bear comes with a subscription model, but considering its cross-device syncing and the overall quality of the app, many users find it to be a worthwhile investment.

Bottom Line

GoodNotes for Mac intends to offer synchronization across iPad, iPhone, and Mac devices by utilizing iCloud. The app provides a wide variety of features for creating, importing, and editing documents on Mac.

However, some users have reported a nonintuitive interface, making it challenging to use the app effectively. Keep in mind, Syncing issues are also a drawback, as notes did not always update swiftly for me among all devices. GoodNotes for Mac may not provide the best experience for M1 laptops, as performance and optimization concerns have been reported by some users.

However, the app is improving with updates, and I do believe it will improve over time.

What are the Different Types of mousepads for the magic mouse

What are the Different Types of mousepads for the magic mouse 1

The Magic Mouse is a popular wireless mouse from Apple that is designed to work with Mac computers. There are many different types of mousepads that can be used with the Apple Magic Mouse.

From cloth and hard surface mousepads to gaming, ergonomic, wireless charging or gel-filled mousepads, you have plenty of options and each do provide different experiences for the magic mouse.

Here are all the different types of mousepads that can be used with the Magic Mouse:

  1. Cloth mousepads: These are made of soft, woven fabric and provide a smooth surface for the Magic Mouse to glide over. They are usually lightweight and easy to clean and work well for the magic mouse.
  2. Hard surface mousepads: These are made of plastic or metal and provide a durable and rigid surface for the Magic Mouse. They can offer more precision and accuracy than cloth mousepads, but I found the softer material more comfortable for the magic mouse as the mouse has a hard feel to it already.
  3. Gaming mousepads: These are designed specifically for gaming and can provide a smooth, textured surface that offers improved precision and control. They can also be larger than standard mousepads to accommodate gaming mice movements.
  4. Ergonomic mousepads: These are designed to provide ergonomic support for your wrist and hand. They can be made of gel or memory foam, and can help reduce wrist fatigue and strain.
  5. Wireless charging mousepads: These mousepads have a built-in wireless charging system that can charge your Magic Mouse while it’s in use. This can be a convenient feature if you use your Magic Mouse frequently and want to keep it charged.
  6. Gel-filled mousepads: Gel-filled mousepads are designed to provide extra cushioning for the Magic Mouse. The gel helps reduce wrist strain and fatigue, while also providing a soft and smooth surface for your mouse. These mousepads can be a great way to make long hours of computer use more comfortable.
  7. Heated mousepads: Heated mousepads are designed to provide warmth, I personally don’t prefer them, but many users enjoy it because it helps them get through long hours of computer use without any discomfort. It also helps prevent the Mousepad from getting too cold.

The magic mouse isn’t ideal for gaming, some of the gaming mousepads may not be beneficial, but still work well.

How to choose the best mousepad

How to choose the right mousepad 1

When choosing a mousepad for your Magic Mouse, consider which surface will provide the best durability, precision, or ergonomic support for your liking.

  • If you’re a gamer or need precise movements, look for a larger mousepad with a textured surface.
  • If you have limited space or move your mousepad around a lot, a smaller pad might be better.
  • And, of course, keep your budget in mind – there are options at all price points.

Choosing the right mousepad for your Apple Magic Mouse can be a tricky task. Whether you go with a hard or soft pad depends on your personal preference and needs.

Hard pads, which are typically made of plastic, metal, or glass, offer a smooth surface with less friction, perfect for gamers and creatives who need to make – they also last fairly long.

Soft mouse pads are made from cloth and offer more friction making it easier to add precision when making movements. Unfortunately, because of their fabric construction they’re not as durable as hard pads and tend to get dirty faster and are harder to clean if you’re not careful.

Ultimately though the choice is yours; decide what best fits your needs, or even mix up both surfaces for the best of both worlds!

[I’ll write the below FAQ – do not write this]

How we rated and picked the best mousepad for the apple magic mouse.

When researching and ranking the best mousepads for the Apple Magic Mouse, we took several factors into consideration to ensure we provided a comprehensive guide to our readers.

We assessed the thickness of the mousepad, the size of the pad, its design and aesthetic, and its ability to provide a comfortable, uncrowded, spacious surface for the Magic Mouse.

One of the most important factors we considered was durability. We looked for mousepads that were made from high-quality materials and had a reputation for lasting longer. A mousepad that can withstand regular use and still maintain its surface quality and support is essential for anyone using the Magic Mouse frequently.

We also evaluated the size of each mousepad. A larger mousepad can provide more space for mouse movements, while a smaller one can be more portable and convenient for travel. T

he thickness of the mousepad can also impact its level of support and precision, with thicker pads providing more cushioning for your wrist and hand, while thinner pads offer greater responsiveness. Price is also a factor as mousepads are an accessory on top of everything else you need to buy for your computer.

Design and aesthetic were other key considerations. A mousepad that fits your personal style and workspace can make using the Magic Mouse a more enjoyable experience. We looked for mousepads with various designs, from solid colors to graphics and custom designs.

Creative professionals who use the Magic Mouse at home or work remotely want a mousepad that is large enough, yet have a have modern, sleek texture and design which pair well with apples mouse.

What is a Desk Mat and how is it different from a Mousepad?

A desk mat (or Desk Pad) is a soft, cushioned surface that you can place on your desk or table to protect it from scratches, spills, and other damage. They are essentially very large mousepads that make for a less crowded area to use the mouse on.

Desk Mats comes in different sizes and colors and can be used as a mouse pad or to support your keyboard and other accessories. Using a desk mat can also help prevent wrist and hand fatigue and make your workspace more comfortable.

It’s a great accessory for people who spend a lot of time at their desks for work or gaming, and it can also add a stylish touch to your workspace.

A desk mat is a larger, more versatile surface that can be used to protect a desk from scratches and spills, while also providing support for a mouse and keyboard. A mousepad, on the other hand, is a smaller, more specialized surface that is designed specifically for use with a mouse, providing a smooth and responsive surface for the mouse movements.

For example, a desk mat might be used to protect a wooden desk from scratches and spills while also providing space for a mouse and keyboard, while a mousepad might be used to provide a precise and responsive surface for a gaming mouse, allowing for quick and accurate movements.

How long do mousepads typically last?

The lifespan of a mousepad depends on the material and frequency of use. A well-made mousepad can last several years with proper care and maintenance. If you’re using a mouse for gaming or creative projects, then the mousepad may not last as long as casual use – it all depends on how much you use it and the surface type.

The logitech Master MX mouse may not last as long for these reasons, but the Apple magic mouse is usually used for work or play, which means the mousepad could last a bit longer.

The Magic Mouse works on most surfaces, including wood, plastic, and metal. However, it may not work well on transparent or reflective surfaces, such as glass or mirrored surfaces.

  1. Reduce the size of the videos while maintaining the quality: Converting a video to a more efficient codec or compression format can significantly reduce the file size without sacrificing quality. This makes it easier to store and share the video, especially if you have limited storage space or a slow internet connection. For instance, you can convert a high-resolution video shot on your smartphone to a smaller file size using the H.264 codec without losing the quality.
  2. Use popular standard formats: Using popular standard formats such as MP4, AVI, or MOV ensures compatibility with most devices and software. For example, converting a video to MP4 makes it easier to upload and share on social media platforms like YouTube or Facebook.
  3. Play on television and video players: Some devices, like televisions and video players, only support specific video formats. Converting the video to the required format makes it possible to play the video on such devices. 4. Easily share with others: Converting a video to a common format that is supported by most devices and platforms makes it easy to share with others. You don’t have to worry about compatibility issues, and the recipient can play the video on their device with no problems. For example, if you want to share a video with a friend who has an iPhone, you can convert it to the MOV format, which is compatible with Apple devices.
  5. Play on mobile devices like iPhone, iPod, Android devices: Different mobile devices support different video formats. Converting a video to a compatible format makes it possible to play the video on the device. For example, if you want to watch a video on your Android phone, you can convert it to the MP4 format.

Converting videos has several benefits, including reducing the size of the video while maintaining the quality, ensuring compatibility with different devices and platforms, and making it easier to share and edit videos.

Converting a video is similar to converting audio in that both involve changing the format of the file so it can be viewed or used on different devices and applications. For example, converting a video to MP4 ensures that it can be played on most devices and software, just like converting audio from WAV to MP3 makes sure it can be listened to on any music player.

  1. Install VideoProc Converter and open the portrait video.
  2. Change the orientation of the video from portrait to landscape by clicking on the “Rotate” symbol and choose the “Rotate Left” option.
  3. Click “Done” to save the changes and choose an export format. Hit “RUN” to process the video.
  4. Once the new landscape file has been created, remove the original video from VideoProc Converter and add the new file.
  5. Rotate the video 90 degrees to bring it back to portrait mode and export it.

This removes the rotation metadata and enables the Interactive Zoom feature on VLC to work smoothly on your video.

VLC Media Player is compatible with Android devices and provides a wide range of settings. However, users may need to become familiar with the menu options to locate specific features like the zoom function on the Android version of VLC.

This has more to do with the actual settings of your operating system, and less to do with VLC.

This is not the same as using the zoom feature mentioned in this post, but it is an issue some users report.

Be sure to learn how to change your display options depending on the operating system for this. (Mac or windows)

You’ll be able to remove unwanted display areas, resize the video to your liking, and even improve quality by zooming in on a particular part of a video.

Important: The way cropping works in VLC is not particularly intuitive, but it does get the job done conveniently and for free. You’ll be forced to type in the pixel values (as opposed to dragging and stretching out a video to crop or resize it).

Unfortunately, it’s not done through an intuitive click & drag of your mouse or trackpad, which is a feature advanced powerful video players (Mac) and video editing softwares typically have to make it easier and faster to crop.

This post I’ll explain how you can crop a video in VLC media player on both Windows and Mac. I’ll also cover how you can save the video after you crop it. Each step will be covered based on the operating system, as well as alternative cropping options
