Is the GAOMON S620 good?

Yes, the Gaomon S620 is a good graphics tablet. To further answer this question, we have to take into account that the Gaomon S620 costs are extremely affordable.

For example, the tablet is designed featuring an aesthetically pleasing plastic, which is appropriate for the price range.

As an ultimately affordable device, the S620 offers more advanced features than we initially expected. The Gaomon tablet has minimal to no delay for me.

As for the size of the active area, the 6.5 x 4 inches is more than adequate for beginners. There are also many professionals who prefer to draw on small canvases. Do not forget that the well-known Wacom Intuos has a smaller active area (6.0″ x 3.7″). A larger competitor is the Wacom One creative pen tablet 13.3

All in all, the latest Gaomon S620 is a reliable graphics tablet with advanced features. It also costs nearly half the price of its competitors while accomplishing the exact same goals. (e.g. Wacom Intuos). 

Performance wise, the 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity make for a great drawing experience. 

In fact, there are more expensive graphics tablets with less pen pressure; there are many that only offer pens with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

Pros and cons – Hands on testing of the Gaomon

During our testing, we had no problems connecting the S620 to our Mac and Windows computers. 

As promised by the brand, the tablet works great with any art software such as Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, Procreate, Krita, etc.

Note: If you are using Procreate on iPad, then you’ll help determine the Best Procreate iPad, rather than a graphics tablet.

• Keep in mind that the cons mainly include the lack of a built-in screen & tilt support, which is expected and not an issue unless you require those extra features.
• If you need tilt support and a built-in screen, then you may want to upgrade to the Gaomon PD1161, which is also more affordable than many other alternatives.

It’s important to note that a graphics tablet, like the GAOMON S620, S630, and similar other models of competitor brands do not support finger touch in order to zoom & rotate. 

The customization and programmability of shortcut buttons is instead used, though.

Let’s take a look at the features that GAOMON has included in the latest S620. In this section we will talk individually about: levels of pressure sensitivity, OS compatibility, number of buttons, keybinds, quality of stylus pen, the design and overall size of the device & drawing area.

Pen Pressure sensitivity

The brand new Gaomon S620 is one of the most responsive graphics tablets in its price range. In fact, the GAOMON S620 provided a great drawing experience during our test. 

The 8192 levels of pressure sensitivity of the pen allowed us to work on our detailed drawings.

• The experience felt very balanced when it came to applying lower or higher pressure to the s620 tablet with the stylus.
• It’s also important to note that we never experienced inconsistent pressure bumps or lag of any kind.

On windows based desktop devices, you can adjust the pen pressure you’ll need to use Gaomon Driver interface and locate the stylus pen tab, after this, you’ll enable windows ink, and adjust the pressure sensitivity which ranges from -2 to +2.

If you were to adjust the pen pressure sensitivity on mac OS, then you can use the same method to adjust based on the software. For example, the Adobe creative cloud, photostop, illustrator, adobe animator, FireAlpaca, Krita, Sai, and others are compatible. Compatibility

Gaomon has made sure that the latest S620 can connect to almost any device on the market. Even though the S620 does not have Bluetooth, that’s reasonable considering its price. However, the S620 can be connected to external devices via a USB port.

The device is compatible with macOS (OS X 10.10 or higher), Windows (Windows 7 or higher), Chromebook, and Android devices (6.0 or higher). Of course, most Android devices do not have a USB port. In this case, you will need an adapter if you want to connect the S620 to your smartphone or tablet.

Button & Keybinds

Unlike other graphics tablets in this price range, the Gaomon S620 has four shortcut keys on the top left of the canvas. 

All four buttons are programmable and you can change their functions via the device’s software.

During our test, all the buttons proved to be convenient and really helpful when drawing and photo editing in Photoshop. 

Another interesting feature is that the Gaomon driver allows you to use different shortcuts for different software. If you are doing CAD work, you may want the best laptop for autocad in addition to a Gaomon Graphics tablet.

For example, if you use Photoshop and Illustrator, you can program the shortcut buttons for each application and the tablet will automatically switch between your settings.

Uses

Thanks to its high pressure sensitivity and responsive active pen, the S620 proves to be a reliable drawing pad for digital art creation. In fact, we encountered no problems using the Gaomon device with Illustrator and Krita.

That being said, the S620 is also a useful tool when it comes to photo editing. The tablet works smoothly with Photoshop and Lightroom, and the shortcut buttons will make the whole process much easier.

Stylus pen

The latest Gaomon S620 comes with an Artpaint AP32 active pen. The pen is battery-free and, like Wacom’s pens, uses EMR (electromagnetic resonance) technology.

To clarify, the pen generates electromagnetic fields that are converted into electrical energy. This energy is then used to record information on the tablet (pressure, tilt, button clicks, etc.).

In addition, the AP32 pen has a pressure sensitivity of 8192 levels, which is similar to the most advanced pens on the market. 

Finally, the pen has two editable buttons that you can program.

All in all, this is one of the most powerful pens we have ever seen on a tablet that costs less than $50.

Design & Size

The tablet is very handy as it is very light and measures only 210 x 174 x 8 mm. As with Wacom Intuos, you will have no problems carrying this device in your backpack. The active area is 6.5 x 4 inches. For this price range, this is more than decent.

When it comes to the active pen it is also lightweight and has a cylindrical plastic body. We really liked that Gaomon added a silicone cover to the front of the pen. This provides a better grip.

Although the pad and pen do not feel particularly premium, we had no complaints about the design and size of the Gaomon S620 considering the price.

Gaomon Tablet Cover

Unfortunately, the S620 tablet doesn’t have an integrated pen stand. This is one of the features we missed. Luckily, Gaomon has included a fabric case for the AP32 stylus. 

This will help you store your active pen when you are not using it.

Finally, the Gaomon tablet box includes everything you need to use the drawing pad. In addition to the tablet and pen, Gaomon has included eight pen nibs, a drawing glove, instructions, and a micro USB cable.

To our surprise, the brand also includes two adapters: one micro-USB to USB-A and one USB-C to USB-A.

How to use the Gaomon S620

Using the Gaomon S620 is very easy. The process is similar to other drawing tablets like the Wacom Intuos. All you have to do is:

1. Plug the tablet to your computer via the USB cable
2. Install the drivers
3. Open the control panel and program the Press Keys
4. Open the drawing or photo editing software you use
5. You are good to go

How to Connect the Gaomon S620 Tablet to your computer or laptop

Heres how you can connect the Gaomon S620 to your computer or laptop device:

1. Initiate the installation of the free software driver that should come with the instructions of the device. If you’ve lost the instructions, visit the Gaomon website to download the S620 driver.
2. Next, turn on the device and connect the graphics tablet to the port on your laptop or desktop computer (Micro USB & USB-A).
3. Finally, launch a drawing app. Example include adobe photoshop, lightroom, krita, medibang, or sketchup.

Is Gaomon good for playing OSU? (Android)

Yes, You can use the stylus pen of the gaomon the same way you would as a joystick in a arcade game for OSU.

As with all drawing tablets, Gaomon S620 is very helpful when it comes to playing OSU Rhythm games on your Android devices. Keep in mind that in order to use the S620 on your Android smartphone you need a USB to USB-A adapter.

Thankfully Gaomon has included such an adapter to the latest S620. This is why this device is a smart choice for OSU players. However, if you own an Android device that charges through a USB-C port, you will need to buy a USB to USB-C adapter.

What pens are compatible with Gaomon S620

Apart from the Airpaint AP32 stylus pen that the Gaomon S620 comes with, the device can also be connected to other Gaomon pens(PD1161, PD1561, etc). 

However, since the Gaomon drivers are specifically created for the AP32 we don’t recommend you using other active pens.

What pen nibs are used with the GAOMON S620?

The AP32 stylus comes with eight extra pen nibs. That said, you won’t have to worry about purchasing extra nibs for a long time. Gaomon has also included a nib remover tool that will help you change nibs in just seconds.

However, if you use the AP32 for a long time you might need an extra pack of nibs. In that case you will be happy to hear that Gaomon pack nibs are very affordable.

Gaomon vs Huion: What are the differences?

Gaomon is a well-known brand for its affordable and reliable drawing tablets. The same also applies for Huion. However, Huion devices are relatively more expensive than Gaomon devices. Since both brands were founded in 2011 and provide great products, the differences aren’t significant.

We can say that Gaomon is a better option than Huion for artists on a budget. And if you think about it, the Gaomon S620 is more flexible (shortcut buttons, perfect for OSU, adapters included) than the Huion HS64.

In a few words, both Gaomon and Huion are very popular among artists, graphic designers and photographers for good reasons.

Wacom vs Gaomon: How are they different?

Wacom is by far the most well-known brand when it comes to drawing pads. However, this is one of the reasons why it is also the most expensive one. 

Of course, Wacom devices are very reliable and provide an awesome drawing experience… but, so does GAOMON.

Nevertheless, the same applies for Gaomon drawing tablets. 

In fact, Gaomon devices are equally powerful and significantly more affordable.

Can’t Uninstall Gaomon Driver

There are some occasions when users find it difficult to uninstall the Gaomon drivers. This is why the brand has provided analytic instructions on how to do it. Therefore, if you want to completely uninstall the Gaomon driver, you should:

How we rated the Gaomon S620

We rated the Gaomon based on how large the drawing area size is on the graphics tablet, the quality of the build, amount of shortcut up buttons, texture of the surface, compatibility with operating systems and levels of pressure sensitivity. Gaomon S620 review is based on the latest version of the product.

A drawing tablet size of 6.5 x 4 is a great standard medium size area for digital artists and OSU players to utilize. It’s large enough to use and portable enough for most users. Pressure sensitivity of 8192 is extremely high and thus, we rated the Gaomon S620 high in this area.

Scratch resistant screen and support for android is ideal for most who need a tablet of this type. The only downside we found was that it did not have tilt sensitivity or a built-in screen to use as a secondary monitor.

Does Gaomon S620 have a screen?

Gaomon S620 does not have a built-in screen for you to draw and write directly on. The display glass is smooth, but provides AG. However, it does have a scratch resistant surface that allows pen strokes to not damage the graphics tablet screen it has. The displays of the Gaomon S620 & S630 are very similar in regards to usage capabilities.

Does the Gaomon S620 work on an Apple iPad?

No,  The Gaomon S620 & S630 do not work with iPad nor the iPhone of any model. Compatible devices include Android mobile, Mac and windows. Like most graphics tablets, the compatibility of the S620 is specifically designed to be used as a graphics pen tablet to Laptop/Desktop only.

Does Gaomon S620 have smoothing?

Hawku’s anti-smoothing filter on Gaomon is popular amongst many digital artists looking to further enhance smoothing. However, since Hawku utilizes prediction for determining where your cursor will move, improved alternatives are sought out.

There is also Opentabletdriver, which some artists recommend as its up to date & is associated with keybinds. A plugin called deconstructor essentially reverses smoothing algorithms to enable more precision. It does have left hand mode.

If you are looking for a larger screen size, then yes you should consider the M10k Pro rather than the gaomon s620z. 

Why? Because the Mk10 Pro has support for Tilt & Radial functions as well as 6 additional shortcut keys. So it is an improvement, but not necessary unless these features are required for you as a digital artist.
